Purpose Built Software is an Australian owned and managed company
producing high quality application software designed and built to meet your
business requirements.
Purpose Built Software was formed to fill a void in the market place
for custom written applications specifically utilising mobile devices
however our knowledge and skill sets have evolved to building and interfacing
into large corporate back end applications.
Taking corporate data, turning it into useful information and making
it available to a mobile workforce requires a unique mix of people, technology
and cooperation from all interested parties. At PBS, our people are chosen
carefully and must possess both state of the art technical expertise and
communication skills that facilitate open dialog to ensure a business
problem is fully understood. Quite often, our people facilitate effective
communication sessions between stakeholders in the various projects. Our
people understand the technology and can also place themselves in a business
persons shoes to see both sides of the story.
We have people with state of the art technical skills that are also able
to communicate with normal everyday people who simply want a business
problem solved. We believe the ability to understand and select an appropriate
technology and then communicate it effectively will see a project through
to completion and more importantly it will be a successful project.
Our approach involves rapid prototyping utilising state of the art tools.
All too often the business confuses a prototype with a real application
that can be deployed. They are often disappointed that there is no real
"meat" to the application and they have to wait another 6 months
to get the prototype turned into a commercial application.
PBS prototype and build the application at the same time. Prototyping
enables the business to visualise a solution to their problem. Our "Protara"
development environment enables a prototype to evolve into a commercially
viable, robust and scalable solution for a business problem.
The technology is great but without our people it would not be effective.
It is our people that draw out business issues and use past experience
to solve both common and unusual problems.
Our team is located in Sydney and we use only local resources to ensure
we can monitor and maintain the highest quality output.

Directors
Norman Bain
Somewhat unique to the software development industry Norman started his
career in an accounting office in an era where the machinery was more
mechanical than electronic. From formal training in managing client's
weekly and monthly activities to preparing tax returns, Norman moved through
corporate roles in financial and cost accounting to company accountant
before starting a business of his own. By 1986 Norman was programming
PCs to satisfy the needs of his business and was getting requests from
others to do the same for them. What followed was a deliberate career
change and pursuit of roles as a C++ software engineer in firms who were
applying formal approaches to software development.
The resultant mix of accounting, business and software development expertise
is used to good effect at Purpose Built Software where Norman has the
role of Technical Director. The unique mix of business knowledge and technical
expertise allows Norman to communicate with our clients at numerous levels
and understand the issue at hand from a business perspective as well as
a technical perspective. This unique mix of skills streamlines the communication
process and delivers solutions that meet the business requirements first
time..
